Haymaker: Charlotte, NC
FOOD REVIEW & OUTFIT: Saturday Brunch at Haymaker
So to kick things off, I visited Haymaker in Charlotte, North Carolina. Haymaker is located in Uptown Charlotte on the corner of 3rd St. and S. Poplar St. They serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM - 2:30 PM. Find their brunch menu here.
My Order:
Mimosa (orange juice, cava)
Haymaker’s Breakfast (2 scrambled eggs, benton’s bacon, herb roasted potatoes, jalapeño biscuit)
Modifications: I substituted the bacon for fruit and instead of scrambled eggs, I ordered my eggs cooked over medium.
Review:
I really enjoyed Haymaker. The restaurant itself was very nice. It is well lit from their floor to ceiling windows and they have greenery throughout the restaurant. It feels like you are outside while being inside. There are two floors, an upstairs and a downstairs.
I also appreciated that they implemented Covid-19 safety protocols. Masks were required upon entry. The staff took our temperature and we were required to sign a waiver form before being sat at a table. All of the staff were wearing masks and there was hand sanitizer when you walked in. Also, their menu was accessible through a QR code on the table so you did not have to physically touch a menu. Checkout was hands-free on a portable device.
The food came out very quickly. The Haymaker’s Breakfast was good. The eggs were cooked perfectly to over medium and the potatoes were well seasoned. The standout part of the meal for me was the jalapeño biscuit. It was not dry and had just the right amount of spice. My mimosa had a good ratio of champagne and orange juice, which is important!
On a less positive note, their brunch menu is not very vegan friendly if you are looking for something more than just a salad. The only meat options they have are bacon or country ham, which are both red meat. They do not have other meat alternatives.
B.I.T.S. Rating:
Overall, I would give Haymaker 4 out of 5 stars. The service was great and the food was great, but I wish they had additional meat options. If you ever come to Charlotte, add Haymaker to your brunch list!
What I Wore:
For this brunch look, I paired this snakeskin print dress with a ripped denim jacket from Forever 21. I bought this jacket years ago, but it has remained a staple in my closet because of its length. It is almost the same length as the dress and I love the oversized look. I like to wear my denim jackets off the shoulder in some way especially in the summer heat. Let me know your thoughts on the look!
